FAQs

Why Chiropractic?

Imagine your finger gets stuck in a car door.  Would you rather I take your finger out of the door, or simply hand you a pain killer?  If you would rather I address the actual cause of your pain rather than simply trying to mask your symptoms, then you should consider chiropractic.  Chiropractic is a natural, safe, and effective complimentary healthcare model that addresses your body as an integrated system.

Our bodies are constantly subject to stress, whether it be hunching over a steering wheel, sleeping awkwardly, lifting heavy objects, running to catch a train, or simply being born!  Due to all the physical stress we endure, the bones in our body (especially in our spinal column) can lose some of their natural movement.  This can have far reaching and significant effects on our health and function.

Chiropractors are trained to find exactly which bones are not moving properly.  Using our hands or other mechanical instruments, we deliver a precise, gentle thrust to get that area moving again.  This adjustment, a distinctive feature of chiropractic, reduces pain, increases blood flow, and resets the nervous system.  Chiropractic can offer relief for a specific health problem, and can improve your overall health and maximize your wellness potential.

What is Applied Kinesiology?

Your body is a complex, integrated system with potential for unique problems resulting from many factors.  Applied Kinesiology (AK) recognizes this complexity by incorporating ideas from chiropractic, acupuncture, nutrition, podiatry, craniosacral techniques, and others to diagnose and heal.  While most chiropractors focus primarily on structural problems with your bones and muscles, AK allows the practitioner to understand chemical and mental contributions.  AK doctors use muscle testing as a tool to identify and treat muscular imbalances in the body, and also as a testing mechanism to determine precisely and accurately what is stressing the body and the best way to fix it.

Why should pregnant women get chiropractic care?

Pregnancy is a time of numerous physical changes to a woman's body. Your center of gravity dramatically shifts forward, putting new stress on your low back and upper body.  Chiropractic care offers safe, gentle, and drug free relief from pregnancy related aches and pains.  Additionally, chiropractic promotes balance in the pelvis and reduces soft tissue tension, relaxing the muscles that attach to your uterus, and therefore allowing a safer and easier birth.  Dr. Sobel is certified in the Webster Technique by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, which is a method of evaluating and treating the pelvis, and is especially effective in pregnant women.  Nutrition is especially important during your pregnancy, and Dr. Sobel can help you make sure you are getting enough of the right foods, and avoiding certain ones that are not beneficial to your Baby.
