Maybe it’s because I’m a Luddite at heart. Or perhaps because I grew up watching The Terminator and took those lessons very seriously. Maybe I’ll just always be more fascinated with human biology and physiology than with technology. For these and many more reasons, Artificial Intelligence honestly terrifies me and is not something I have integrated into any part of my life.
It terrifies me that humanity is embracing AI so quickly and in shocking contexts like weaponry, public surveillance, and emotional support companions. It terrifies me that my world is being completely reshaped by AI whether I choose to use it or not. And it also terrifies me how people are leaning on AI for quintessential human expression like creating visual art, music, and writing.
I pride myself on showing up as authentically and honestly as possible in my practice, and also in these earnest monthly musings to you, dear Readers. Be assured, my words to you have always and will always come from my human brain, with my own unique perspective, turn of phrases, and quirks.
Maybe some day I’ll find a useful and non scary way to integrate AI technology into my life. But I am certain I will never rely on it to express my thoughts, feelings, and opinions through creative endeavors and pursuits. Because if we take the human out of the art, what, really, is the point?
Warmly,
Dr. Lizzie
