Dream a little dream in my little corner of the world

When we create and participate meaningfully in a small local community, we create and experience a microcosm of the world. What we do, value, and cultivate in our own little families, workplaces, friend groups, and organizations is reflected and amplified in the wider world.

If we want to live in a world where neighbors say “hello”, care about, and protect each other, that is how we need to act in our own communities and neighborhoods.

If we want to live in a world where new parents are supported, validated, and understood, that is how we need to be at our family gatherings, workplaces, and friend groups.

If we want to live in a world where people are treated with kindness and respect, that is what we need to do on the road during rush hour, at the PTO meeting, and when we are shepherding our kids out the door.

If we want to live in a world where mutualism, collaboration, and meaningful relationships can thrive, we need to spend time with people in real life, and not depend on social media for the majority of our sense of connection to others.

While these actions won’t change the whole wide world, they can change our whole little world. And little by little, we can claim back some peace from the chaos, some reciprocity from the consumerism, and some kindness from the cruelty.

The ripples can unfold from us.

Warmly,

Dr. Lizzie
